Ayurvedic Health Coaching
The purpose of Ayurvedic health coaching is to bring awareness and consciousness to our daily lives. We have the ability in each of us to discover the root causes of our experiences and to implement changes that can have profound and lasting effects.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word derived from two roots:
(ayur = life) + (veda = science or knowledge)
Chakra Tree of Life by Susan Farrell Ayurvedic medicine has been around for over 5,000 years. It focuses on prevention of illness and the body’s natural power to heal itself. Prevention starts with a lifestyle that is in harmony with the changing cycles of nature. It is not a symptom based model like allopathic medicine. Instead, Ayurveda looks at the root cause of illness and disease. It looks at the individual as a whole; mind, body and spirit. One cornerstone is the understanding that food is medicine. We really are what we eat. Another is that the mind comes before the body. Thoughts, behaviors and actions affect our body. The way we metabolize what we eat and how we think can either keep us healthy and in balance or it can create discomfort and disease.
The following are reasons why a person seeks out Ayurveda:
- Improving general health and wellness and reduce vulnerability to illness and disease
- Altering lifestyle and dietary practices to improve health
- Changing habits and behavioral patterns to improve relationships with self and with others
- Managing stress, tension and worry to attain a more stable emotional nature
- Seeking an alternative approach to allopathic medicine for managing illness and disease
How Does Health Coaching Work?
As an Ayurvedic health coach; I want to empower you to be the steward of your own health, to help you understand how your choices can influence your well being and to give you the tools and guidance to live an authentic and abundant life. I work with my clients for 6 months at a time and we meet together for an initial consultation that lasts 2 hours. Then we meet every other week for 1 hour for a total of 12 sessions. This program is created so that there is accountability and a consistent anchor to feed the priority for health and consciousness.
4 Areas of Focus:
Behavior: I will help you identify and understand the behaviors that are currently contributing to your physical and emotional health challenges and the changes that will help you move towards your goals. We will focus on the highest priority behaviors that make the biggest impact first.
Consciousness: I will help you uncover and understand any hidden obstacles or resistance you have to making changes that will help you move towards your goals.
Relationships: I will help you identify obstacles you face in your relationships and discover tools to heal them so that you can be empowered to make changes.
Systems: I will help you modify your environments and schedules so that they support your priority for health instead of working against you.
The tools used for diagnosis are pulse and tongue reading, as well as an examination of complexion, eyes, speech/voice and skin. The Ayurvedic tools used for prevention are lifestyle management, nutrition, herbs, spices, aromatherapy, meditation, yoga, and psychology.
